You're Under Arrest is a nice bit of fun that centers around two Tokyo Highway patrol officers, Natsumi and Miyuki, and their day-to-day routines. No shots fired and no naughty bits. There is some fan service though. I enjoyed all 4 OVAs, but, my favorite is "Tokyo Typhoon Rally" (#2). I used to have volumes on subtitled VHS. I have the first TV series box set. I also picked up the You're Under Arrest movie. I gave You're Under Arrest a 4 out of 5. The You're Under Arrest soundtrack CD has 55 tracks and I liked 5 tracks for a total of 9% which works out to a rating of 1 out of 4. It should be noted that many tracks are less than a minute and four tracks are 8 seconds. Also, note that the Japanese release has two CDs with a total of 64 tracks, while the U.S. re-release has only one CD. I have the U.S. re-release.

And So They Met
Tokyo Highway patrol officers Natsumi and Miyuki get off to a bad start when Miyuki busts Natsumi for reckless Moped driving on her way to work. Things get worse when they find out they're going to be partners! But when they run into 'The Fox,' a mysterious figure who tools around defying every traffic regulation yet invented in an unbelievably customized Morris Minor, they'll need all their wits and every RPM in Miyuki's Nitro-Boosted Mini Patrol Car to successfully hound their opponent.

Storm clouds gather over Tokyo as a fierce typhoon bears down upon the city. Into the darkness and wind steals a mysterious yellow Lancia, taking advantage of the deserted streets to indulge in some high-speed harassment. Meanwhile, back at Bokutoo Police Station, is that love, or just negative ions? Intrepid police officers Natsumi and Miyuki can deal with the chaos of a giant storm. But when they are faced with the challenge of transporting a desperately ill pregnant patient to a specialist hospital during a city-wide blackout, there's no room for error, and no time to lose. There is, however, a cop-hating yellow Lancia.

Romance is on the rocks when Yoriko, Bokutoo Precint's gossipy dispatcher, spreads the word that Miyuki is going to attend an 'Omiai' matchmaking session. Will this dire news finally spur the terminally tongue-tied Ken into asking Miyuki for a date, or will Natsumi have to brow-beat him into the dire deed? Of course, Yoriko's got it all wrong. Miyuki isn't going on an Omiai. It's much worse than that! Can Miyuki resist the charms of the stranger from her past? Can the Captain combat the soap opera snafu that is destroying the Precinct productivity? And can anyone get Yoriko to just shut up?!

On The Road Again
Are Bokutoo Precinct's Dynamic Duo headed for Divorce? The normally decisive Natsumi is in the quandary. The normally tongue-tied Ken is full of advise. The normally stoic Miyuki is on the edge of tears. And the abnormally gossipy Yoriko isn't much help the one time she could be useful. Will Natsumi make it as a motorcycle cop? Will Miyuki be able to cope with her carsick new partner? Will Ken take his own advice? And will anyone realize the true identity of the mysterious 'Fox'?!

...The Honda Beat, which is the baseline version of Miyuki's custom mini patrol car, is a light compact two-seater made only in Japan. It is not sold in the US due to a general US preference for larger cars and engines, as well high US collision safety standards which are very difficult for such a small car to meet. Normally the engine is a 660cc, but Miyuki has bored it out to 700cc and added twin cams, a turbo-charger, and Nitrous Oxide boost. Informed sources suggest that such a car could theoretically be built given current technology, but would be impractical at best in reality...For the longest time, I had wanted to replace my VHS version of the OVAs with the DVD, but, I waited too long and the OVA DVDs went out of print. Even after this mishap, I was on the fence with regard to starting to collect the TV series. After a bit of research though, I realized that the plot summaries for the first few episodes of the TV series bore a striking resemblance to the plot summaries for the OVAs. Once I saw the similarity, I decided to take a chance on the TV series. To my pleasant surprise, the first volume of the You're Under Arrest TV series contains the actual OVA animation.
...The name of the Mini-Patrol Car is "Today," and in the original manga series, it has a personalized license plate. Sharp-eyed viewers of the videos will notice that all of the license plates in the video are blank...
