Shuten Doji...

Years ago, I picked up the VHS version of Shuten Doji...
Volume 1
It turns out that Jiro's parents haven't really told him everything they should have. He's discovered that his parent's aren't really his parents! His 'mom' and 'dad' only raised him because a weird old priest asked them to after a two-hundred-foot tall troll dropped him off at the local shrine. Seems that he's not really human, and that there are all manner of evil creatures out to get him. Meanwhile, another has possessed his high school teacher and kidnapped his girlfriend. Why? Something about planning to offer her as a human sacrifice to open a gateway to another dimension...

Volume 2
Go Nagai's masterpiece of erotic horror continues as Jiro tries to solve the mystery of his birth. The newly revealed warrior in the conflict between the forces of light and darkness must cross time and space to find a way to defeat the awesome power of the Oni. SHUTEN DOJI is non-stop action from the creator of DEVILMAN and CUTEY HONEY.

Volume 3
When Jiro and Miyuki's journey through space is interrupted by a horde of demons intent on killing the Shuten Doji, they become separated in time. While Miyuki is stuck in feudal Japan, Jiro is flung into the far future where mankind has gained the stars. His arrival aboard an interstellar spaceship spells disaster for the hapless crew as, even amid the vastness of space, the oni continue their relentless pursuit of the Shuten Doji.

Volume 4
Left mentally unstable after Jiro's abduction, his foster mother continues to cover the walls of her hospital room with paintings of Oni. Meanwhile, after his narrow escape, Jiro returns to the land of his birth where he must defeat the combined might of the Oni. Don't miss the stunning conclusion of Shuten Doji - The Star Hand Kid!
Shuten Doji started out fairly good. There is quite a lot of fan service including some bare skin. There is also copious amounts of red ink. I enjoyed the first two volumes and for a while I thought that the story was basically over, so, I moved on to other things. Then, two more volumes showed up. But, by that point, I lost interest in the series. I used to have the first two volumes on subtitled VHS. I gave Shuten Doji a 3 out of 5. In the aftermath of the Ultimate Otaku Fall Cleanup, I decided not to keep Shuten Doji in my archive.
