Arpeggio of Blue Steel
Iona (I-401)

I really enjoyed Arpeggio of Blue Steel and wanted a wallpaper. This wallpaper is based on a still frame with the background replaced with one of my classic ray-traced backgrounds. The rings that surround Iona were a particular challenge.
Azure Bonds
Alias of Westgate

Alias of Westgate, a character from the Forgotten Realms book, Azure Bonds, needed quite a bit of work to make her presentable. I scanned the cover art from the book and removed as much of the background as possible. Dragonbait, Alias' surial companion, was actually fairly easy to remove, but, there was a tiny bit of moonlight showing through Alias' hair that I couldn't remove, so, a suitably textured and shaded background was needed to obscure my failure. Original artwork by Clyde Caldwell.
Alias of Westgate and Drogonbait
I originally had a composite of Alias and Dragonbait, but, I couldn't find the source materials for that particular wallpaper. After quite a bit of effort, I managed to recreate my original wallpaper. The recreated wallpaper is actually made from three different images arranged in three overlapping layers. Alias and Dragonbait are in the topmost layer, the rocks in the foreground are in a second layer, immediately behind Alias and Dragonbait, and the mountains in the distance, make up the third, bottommost layer. The bottommost layer wasn't large enough to fill the available space, so, I extended it a bit. The extension was only partially successful, so, I ended up covering part of the extension with rocks. Original artwork by Clyde Caldwell.
Blue Submarine No. 6
Kino Mayumi

I had a collage of images from Blue Submarine No.6. But, in keeping with the theme of the wallpapers on the site, I've chosen Kino and placed one of my classic blood marble textures behind her.
Cowboy Bebop
Faye Valentine

I came across a particularly nice image of Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebep while researching unloved anime in my vast archive. Cowboy Bebop isn't exactly unloved, but, I happened to need a high resolution image for the plot summary page on the anime ratings site. I scanned the VHS cover art and after a bit of tweaking, I managed to separate Faye from her background. A nice simple ray traced image proved to be a good compliment for Faye.
Deadman Wonderland
Shiro

Recently, I've been watching episodes of Deadman Wonderland on Cartoon Network. Although, I haven't finished watching the series, I felt inspired to create a couple of wallpapers featuring Shiro. The image is based on the special features DVD cover art. The blue sphere might be a bit too intense for everyday use, but, it looks nice just the same.
Elfen Lied
Lucy

I really enjoyed Elfen Lied. I had originally used an image of Lucy in bandages, but, I think the image of Lucy with the music box is much better. Removing Lucy from her background was fairly straightforward. The background is one of my classic blood marble spheres. This particular sphere has red veins that have been enhanced with an ambient glow. Given the subject matter in Elfen Lied, the red veins seemed appropriate.
Engaged to the Unidentified
Hakuya holding Kobeni

While Engaged To The Unidentified is admittedly, not for everyone, I thoroughly enjoyed the series. One of my favorite parts is, of course, the last episode where Kobeni has the best moment in the series. I created a wallpaper based on a still frame from the aforementioned moment.
Garden of Sinners
Shiki Ryougi

I enjoyed Garden of Sinners a lot. So, much so, that I created a wallpaper. This wallpaper is based on the DVD cover art for Thanatos featuring Shiki Ryougi and one my classic blood marble backgrounds. Shiki's hair proved to be a bit of a challenge. I aligned the background light glare with Shiki's blade glare. It may turn out to be a bit bright for everyday use, but, I think the overall effect is nice.
Ghost in the Shell
Major Motoko Kusanagi

Years ago, when Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex was still fairly new, I had posted a wallpaper featuring Motoko standing against a gold cityscape. Eventually, I took down the wallpaper and I wanted to bring back an updated version of my original wallpaper, but, for the re-release, I wanted Motoko in a different pose. I did, however, keep the gold cityscape. I scanned the image from the DVD cover art and it needed a fair amount of work to make it presentable. The gold cityscape is actually part of a set of images released for a GITS contest. It's been stretched to far beyond its original size, but, still manages to look good.
Ghost Talker's Daydream
Misaki Saiki

I really, really enjoyed Ghost Talker's Daydream. So much so, that I felt inspired to add these wallpapers. They're just a slightly modified versions of the posters included in the DVD-ROM portion of the disc. The GTD wallpapers are a bit more risqué than I would like them to be, but, some of the other images I had to work with, were either a little too far under the covers or somewhat bland. These particular images seem to me to be just right. They capture Misaki's wild, irreverent side and that soft smile that I find so appealing.
Misaki Saiki (with alternate background)
I originally had just one wallpaper for Ghost Talker's Daydream, but after a bit of soul searching, I decided to add a second wallpaper to the selection. The second wallpaper (with the red background) was a bit more risqué than I had wanted. I tried to hide as much as possible, but, there's still a lot of skin showing. For those of you who are familiar with this image, you'll note that this image is actually upside-down.
Last Unicorn
King Haggard

Haggard is by far, my favorite character in the movie, The Last Unicorn, and I felt that he was good enough to have his own wallpaper. I used a high resolution scan of the cover art from the DVD packaging and spent some time tweaking the image to come up with a fairly clean image of Haggard. Haggard required quite a bit of work to remove the text that was overlaid across him. I then replaced the background with something cobbled together using a space-themed image with the planets and stars removed. The clouds are actually part of a Jupiter-like planet.
Mezzo
Mikura

I had originally posted a wallpaper with Mikura, from Mezzo, standing with her jacket partly open. This time around, I used pretty much the same image, but, with a close-up on Mikura's face. The background is yet another of my classic blood marble spheres -- this one entirely in shades of blue and black.
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid
Tohru

Using a super-cute rendition of Tohru by Parororo on Deviant Art, I placed Tohru in front of one of my classic Blood Sky backgrounds.
Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit
Balsa

I was very pleased with Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit, so, I added a couple wallpapers featuring Balsa. Balsa, the heroine of the Moribito series, is certainly a worthy candidate for a few wallpapers. Balsa turned out to be fairly easy to separate from her background, but, I did have some minor issues with her hair. I think it came out reasonably well. I created a new background using a classic blood sky background in combination with a classic blood marble sphere.
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Rei Ayanami

Several years ago, I posted a wallpaper collage with Rei and assorted characters from NGE, but, this time around, I wanted a completely different wallpaper. Rei was posed against a stone wall and needed a lot of touch up to make her presentable. The stone texture and the spikes in Rei's hair proved to be quite a challenge. If I had it to do over again, I probably wouldn't use that image. I had a nice ray-traced sphere for Rei that seemed to compliment her reasonably well. Actually, there are two spheres. The second sphere is actually behind Rei. You can see its reflection in the first sphere.
Misato Katrsuragi
I wanted to expand the NGE offering by adding a second wallpaper and Misato seemed to be a good choice. Misato was originally posed in a corridor and needed only a small amount of touch up to make her presentable. I thought that I might simulate a more modern-looking corridor, but, then I thought that in keeping with the overall theme of using ray-traced backgrounds, that I should use a simple set of spheres similar to Rei's. In both situations, I decided to obscure the second sphere behind the character, because I wanted the light source to more closely match the pose of the characters.
Rg Veda
Ashura

I've enjoyed many releases by the artists known as CLAMP. The Ashura wallpaper was inspired by a particularly nice image from a RG Veda art book. The VHS and DVD cover art wasn't really all that good. As it happens, a few years ago, I picked up a number of art books and RG Veda happened to be one of the series represented in them. I actually made two wallpapers based on this image, but, the second wallpaper had a much larger version of the image centered on the screen. It seemed O.K. at first, but, after a while I thought it was a bit overwhelming for everyday use.
Rocket Girls
Yukari Morita (early concept from the pilot episode)

I liked Rocket Girls, so, I added a couple wallpapers featuring two of the lead characters, Yukari and Matsuri. They were fairly easy to remove from their original backgrounds. Both characters are from the pilot version of the series. The new background is just one of my classic blood marble ray-traced spheres (the same one used behind Balsa for the Moribito wallpapers). Initially, I had some difficulty finding suitable images, but, my recent Adventures in Mighty B Land, although, not entirely successful, proved to be a very useful learning experience. A whole new world of possibilities has opened up, not only with new titles, but, with some of the older titles in my archive.
Saikano
Chise and Shuji

There are quite a few people who didn't really like Saikano, but, I'm not one of them. I enjoyed Saikano enough that I threw up a wallpaper. I had a different wallpaper featuring Chise by herself. But, that image turned out to be unsuitable for the larger size wallpapers that I'm now featuring on this site. So, I took a fairly clean image from the DVD cover featuring both Shuji and Chise and used that instead. Only a few minor adjustments were required to make the image presentable.
Samuri Champloo
Mugen, Fuu and Jin

I liked the look and feel of Samurai Champloo and felt inspired to create this wallpaper. The cover art and other materials that I had on hand didn't really lend itself to being made into wallpapers, so, I used a low resolution still image taken from a video clip. The image still needed a bit of work to make it presentable. I took the time to remove each member of the trio their background and repositioned them a bit to make better use of the available space. I then added a new background behind the trio.
Fuu
I wanted to feature Fuu rather than the entire group, but, Fuu's newly-separated image wasn't really suitable for such a purpose. So, after a quick trip through the web, I found a suitable candidate for a wallpaper. In keeping with the overall theme of the wallpapers on the site, I added a ray-traced image behind Fuu -- in fact, it's the same image that's behind Ryoko.
Space Battleship Yamato 2199
Yamato (buried) (early concept art)

Sometime ago, I came across a couple of early concept images for Space Battleship Yamato 2199, a retelling of the classic Space Battleship Yamato – known in the US as Starblazers. These wallpapers are based on the early concept art.
Tenchi Muyo
Ryoko

One day, I was walking past a video rack and I saw a lady giving me the finger. OK, so it wasn't THAT finger, but, she was giving it to me anyway. This was way back when you could get Laser Disc videos in major retail outlets here in the U.S. As it turns out, it was Ryoko, posing for me on the cover of the first Tenchi Muyo Laser Disc. I was thinking about getting an LD player and I had even picked up a handful of anime LDs, but, then DVD came along and LDs fell by the side of the road. So, now Ryoko is hanging as a piece of artwork on my wall. I scanned the Tenchi LD featuring Ryoko and made some minor alterations for the wallpaper. Although, I've softened the background a bit with a black gradient, the ray-traced image -- with its intense reds and yellows -- behind Ryoko may still be a bit too overwhelming for everyday use.
Tweeny Witches
Arusu

I tried an extreme close-up of Arusu, but, at first, it came out a bit fuzzy -- I went a little overboard with the Gaussian blur effect. The original source is of fair quality, but, not really suited for extreme close up. After a considerable amount of work, I managed to come up with a reasonable wallpaper. Arusu's image needed to be freed from its original background. Then, Arusu needed quite a bit of tweaking to remove as much of the printing artifacts as possible without having to resort to blurring Arusu's image. I placed a classic blood marble texture and a black gradient behind Arusu. To improve the perspective between the foreground and background, I blurred the background somewhat.
Eva, Arusu and Sheila
This wallpaper is based on the DVD cover art for the US release of Tweeny Witches showing Eva, Arusu and Sheila.
Under the Dog
Anthea

I enjoyed Under the Dog enough to create a couple of wallpapers. The Anthea wallpaper is based on a commonly available image with one of my classic ray-traced backgrounds behind her.
Hana
The Hana wallpaper is derived from a still frame with the background replaced with another one of my classic ray-traced backgrounds.
Urusei Yatsura
Lum

Urusei Yatsura, at 62 volumes, is by far, the largest anime series in my collection. I had a handful of wallpapers for this series featuring collages of various characters, but, this time around, in keeping with the layout of the other wallpapers on this site, I wanted Lum by herself and added another of my classic blood marble backgrounds behind Lum. Astute viewers may note that this is in fact the same background I've used behind Misaki (Ghost Talker's Daydream), but, rotated and flipped. By the way, this blood marble background is not a sphere, but, rather a flat surface viewed from above at a steep angle. In both the UY wallpaper and in the GTD wallpaper, the steep viewing angle is partially hidden by the character art.
Blood Marble
Sphere

This is one of my classic Blood Marble spheres on a Blood Sky floor rendered using POV-Ray 3.6.
Sphere (2nd Variation)

Sphere (3rd Variation)

Sphere (Close Up)
A close up view of a Blood Marble sphere rendered using POV-Ray 3.7.
Object
This was an early concept image I designed for a DOS-era game. It features an abstract object made from some Blood Marble spheres, a liquid checkerboard floor and a Fire Sky background rendered in POV-Ray 2.0.
Floor

Floor (2nd Variation)

Fire Sky
Rendered using POV-Ray 2.0

This is one of my classic Fire Sky scenes rendered using POV-Ray 2.0. The scene took about three days to render on a 386SX PC running Windows 3.1. This scene showcases highly reflective glass textures and a classic checkerboard pattern.
