A to O P to Z Currently, I have over 4600 DVDs. The live-action titles were originally arranged with A though L on a small bank of shelves and M through Z on a larger bank of shelves with TV shows separated from movies on the larger bank of shelves. Recently, I began to run out of space for live-action titles. In an effort to combat issues with the mainstream live-action titles, I decided to consolidate the anime to one bank of shelves. It meant that there wouldn't be much extra space for new titles, but, everything would fit on eleven shelves with a handful of the larger box sets relegated to the topmost shelf. With space recovered from anime, it meant that there was more room to consolidate the animated TV shows and movies. I reorganized them with the mainstream animated movies and Disney animation sorted alphabetically and having pride of place in the front row and animated TV series being placed on the back row. And, all of the animation fit on one bank of shelves. ...

Anime A to S Anime T to Z CDs, Animation, etc... Collectibles Currently, I have over 4500 DVDs. Lately, I've been struggling under the weight of anime that will not fit in my custom cabinet. Shortly after installing the cabinet, I had it completely filled, but, only with titles from A to N. Titles from O to Z were crammed into two drawers under my bed and scattered among four shelves and there was no room for new titles. So, I took the doors off the cabinet and added longer shelf brackets and filler strips to expand the shelves from 8 inches to 12 inches. With the expanded shelves in place, I could add a second row. To allow for new titles, I only used half of the second row. I then added two fixed shelved below the cabinet. The expanded shelves and the two new shelves still only made space for titles from A to S. Next, I decided to turn my attention to a bookcase on the opposite side of the room. I reorganized the books to make better use of the space and that gave ...

Currently, I have around 4300 DVDs [1] . Recently, in the aftermath of the Attack Of The Mushroom People , a subsequent roof leak and in the tradition of the first annual Otaku Spring Cleanup , I had to reorganize my DVDs yet again. An entire bank of shelves had to be dismantled [2] and the contents of those shelves shifted into the other banks of shelves. In case you were wondering, the black areas [2] are a rubberized membrane that was sprayed on before joint compound and paint were applied to the patches. Before The Roof Leak [1] Area Patched -- After [2] The left-most banks of shelves were narrow 8-inch shelves and the shelves in the center section were 12-inch shelves. Because the center section was recessed, the wider shelves were almost even with the narrower shelves. I had DVDs stacked two-deep on the wider shelves. In the aftermath of the roof leak, I swapped the narrow shelves on the left for the wider shelves and moved some of the excess DVDs to the newl...

Recently, in the aftermath of the Attack Of The Mushroom People , and in the tradition of the Ultimate Otaku Fall Cleanup , I came to the realization that I had to reorganize the DVD collection. In all, I have about 4100 DVDs. It took several hours to unload the shelves in the center, shift everything over about a foot and reload the shelves. After the initial phase of reorganization, I ended up losing space in the corner, where two banks of shelves intersect. I'm not entirely sure how to make use of that dead space in the corner, but, for the time being, I have some old magazines hidden in that space that are doing double duty as book ends. Some of the DVDs (mostly anime) are hiding under the bed. Also, the bank of shelves in the center and on the right have two rows of DVDs. The center bank is where a good sized chunk of my anime is hidden (the important thing is that I know it's there) and the bank on the right conceals many of my DVD box sets. To conserve addition...

After reading a report on the Anime News Network about a contest to show off our otaku pride, I realized that my comfy little corner of the universe needed a bit of attention... Seven Seas Entertainment, in cooperation with Square Enix, are hosting an "Are You an Otaku?" contest to promote the upcoming American release of Jiro Suzuki's manga series "I, Otaku: Struggle in Akihabara." Entrants are requested to submit two photos revealing the extent of their anime/manga collection. The grand prize winner will receive an original color illustration from artist Jiro Suzuki and ten Seven Seas manga. Runners up will receive a copy of the first "I, Otaku" manga... In the attached image, made up from three photographs, you can see a sample of the VHS collection. I've got about 1,700 VHS tapes stacked on shelves that go floor to ceiling on three and a half walls. I've got about 1,600 DVDs that share shelf space with the VHS tapes. I've also go...
