Freezing...
At first glance, Freezing, seemed a lot like so many other schoolyard battleground themed anime series...
If you didn't already suspect it based on the cover art, I should say that there is plenty of fan service to be found within Freezing (bare skin, bare breasts, gratuitous panty shots and suggestive situations and dialogue). The fan service depicted in Freezing is not quite as over-the-top as in Heaven's Lost Property, but, it is fairly over-the-top. As such, with gratuitous violence and bloodshed and copious amounts of fan service, clearly the younger anime fans should stay away from Freezing.
Freezing combines the typical schoolyard battleground themed anime with the usual elite corps of special children defending humanity from alien invaders. To be honest, I'm not really impressed with the aliens, but, it was a nice change of pace and elevated Freezing, if only slightly, to a different level. Even though the aliens do suck, they did manage to show some creativity in the latter part of the series and contribute greatly to a very satisfying conclusion.
Amazingly, even though, as a general rule, I'm not really fond of schoolyard battleground themed anime, I found myself thoroughly engrossed with Freezing. Although, I still don't like schoolyard battleground themed anime, I did like Freezing enough to give it a 3 out of 5.
Season 1At first glance, Freezing, seemed a lot like so many other schoolyard battleground themed anime series. And, that's probably because it is. I'm not really partial to schoolyard battleground themed anime, but, I thought I would give it a try. I find it very convenient that most people don't die after being chopped up into pieces by our heroine, Satellizer's, wicked blade. As one would expect there is plenty of red ink to go around. But, don't get me wrong, people do die and stay dead. Death and loss are a prevalent theme throughout Freezing.
Eager to follow in the footsteps of his fallen sister, Kazuya enrolls at West Genetics Academy, a training facility for buxom heroes known as Pandoras. These courageous schoolgirls are genetically enhanced with enough sex appeal to cripple a man - and the superhuman strength to slaughter aliens by the dozen. Kazuya's role is that of Limiter, a Pandora's battle partner, and he quickly sets his sights on the most feared beauty in school, Satellizer el Brigette.
This full-figured annihilator of aliens is as desirable as she is deadly, but rubbing her the wrong way could lead to gross bodily harm. Can Kazuya forge a bond with his new partner and rise to the top of the ranks at West Genetics? Or will he fall victim to the mysterious bloodlust lurking within Satellizer?
Season 2
Satellizer el Bridget and some of the most powerful – and desirable – Pandoras in the world are summoned to a secret base in the wilds of Alaska. These gorgeous warriors arrive primed for battle, but they soon discover the true purpose for their presence: to assist the clandestine Chevalier organization in forging a new breed of soldier - E-Pandoras!
Once normal girls, these eager beauties volunteered to have their bodies genetically enhanced in order to join the fight against the deadly alien invaders plaguing the planet. But there's more to becoming a superhuman battle vixen than tattered uniforms and sultry slugfests. Rumors of heinous experimentation haunt the E-Pandora project, and only Satellizer and her loyal companion Kazuya can unravel the mystery before it's too late!
