Is This A Zombie...

Recently, I picked up Is This A Zombie...
Some guys have no luck; he's got no pulse. That's life for unfortunate, undead Ayumu. First, he was murdered by a serial killer. Total bummer. Then he was resurrected as a zombie by a cute little necromancer. That seemed pretty cool until she moved into his house, refused to speak, and forced his rotting carcass to do all the cooking. After that, a magical girl in a pretty pink dress used her matching chainsaw to chop his corpse in half.

Luckily, the necromancer's powers of resurrection trumped those of the chainsaw chick, so instead of dying (again), Ayumu became the world's first magical girl zombie. There's also a voluptuous vampire ninja who thinks zombie boy's a pervert - and a hideous crayfish demon who wants to devour him. Confused? All you gotta know is this: zombies, frilly dresses, demons, and moe chainsaws. Pink. It's the new dead.
After High School Of The Dead, I couldn't NOT pick up Is This A Zombie. I like zombies almost as much as I like vampires and this series has both. My initial impression of the series is very positive. I found the series to be very comfortable to read and enjoyable to watch. As is typical with the latest trend in Funimation releases, there is quite a bit of fan service and even the occasional flash of full frontal nudity (of course the naughty bits are obscured)...

Is This A Zombie is packaged in a typical double-wide chipboard box with two DVD cases each containing one DVD each with half the series. The chipboard box is particularly beautiful. The pink elements are rendered with a glitter effect that would be right at home in the pink section of any toy store. Funimation has, with its recent releases, taken to distorting their cover art. I've done what I can with it, and it'll probably have to do, as the cover box probably will not scan very well.

Is This A Zombie has a fair amount of red ink, but, isn't particularly gruesome. Unlike High School Of The Dead, the tone of Is This A Zombie leans more distinctly towards comedy than horror. I haven't finished watching the series, yet. But, so far, I'm very pleased.
