Napping Princess...

Recently, I took the opportunity to watch Napping Princess...
In Napping Princess the year is 2020, three days before the opening of the Tokyo Olympics. While she should be studying for her exams, Kokone Morikawa is often dozing off, stuck between reality and a dream-world full of fantastic motorized contraptions. But after her father, a talented, but, mysterious mechanic, is arrested for stealing technology from a powerful corporation, it's up to Kokone and her childhood friend Morio to save him. Together they realize that Kokone’s dream-world holds the answers to the mystery behind the stolen tech, and they embark on a journey that traverses dreams and reality, city and country, and past and present. Their mission uncovers a trail of clues to her father’s disappearance and ultimately a surprising revelation about Kokone's family.
In Napping Princess, Kokone is a typical student being raised by her father. They seem to have a good relationship, but, at times her father can be a bit of a loner. Kokone is infamous for being able to sleep just about anywhere. And, when Kokone dreams, she seems to dream about the same dream world. In the dream world, Kokone plays the part of Ancien, who has a magic tablet that she uses to give life to machines in the dream world. Kokone has recurring dreams about Ancien and all is not sweetness and light and the dream world. Sinister forces are on the move.

Meanwhile, one day, in the real world, an executive from a major car company arranges for Kokone's father to be taken into custody as a means of forcing Kokone's father to surrender a tablet that has secrets vital to the company's future. The story escalates to a wonderful climax as characters in the real world show up in the dream world and events in the dream world appear to have an impact on the real world. Overall, Napping Princess was fast-paced and very entertaining. There are, of course, no naughty bits, bloodshed or gore to speak of. I gave Napping Princess a 4 out of 5.
