Maia is having a very, very bad day. Her life-long dreams to join the elite Ocean Agency are demolished when, despite everyone's high expectations, she fails the entrance exams. Then she gets evicted! Penniless, homeless, and unemployed, Maia finds herself in the middle of a shoot-out between fugitive convicts and the Nereides - sexy agents who only take the most high-paying and dangerous jobs. Desperate, Maia takes the only job she can find: playing bait in the Nereides' next operation!

She suffers from severe amnesia, and she has never quite recovered from it. She wants to recover her memory, but there seems to be someone who is trying to prevent her from recovering them...

Revenge
Nereides' sexy female agents will take on any job for the right price, no matter how dangerous or demanding. But they first have to fight off the infamous crime family, the Wong Chang Lee brothers, out to revenge Nereides for getting them arrested. Than, a mission to find a runaway boy with broken heart takes Maia to Siberia City again, where she gets caught up in a conspiracy involving the Eight Ocean Cities and the entire Nereids organization...

Volume 5
Treasure
Ridiculously impossible missions just seem to fall into the laps of the sexy female agents of Nereides. Yu is usually the calm and collected one, but she nearly loses it when stuck with an abandoned baby.

Shizuka, while trying to protect an injured undercover agent, falls in love hard. Then, the Wang-Chang-Lee Brothers plus their little sister May return again in an attempt to steal Nereides' submarine, Yomogo-1.

Meanwhile, Maia's partial recovery of her lost memory is making some people high up in the Ocean Agency very nervous...

Volume 6
Memories
Although Maia's trip to Siberia City to find clues about her past was fruitless, she's still hung up on the faint memories she has about her brother... Could the mysterious man who always seems to save her in the nick of time be him? Then, her inability to concentrate during a routine mission gets Shizuka severely injured, which in turn gets Maia fired from Nereids!

Regenesis
As Maia's past is uncovered, will she be able to handle the truth? The secret of Daphne is revealed in this shocking finale!

Fan service and scantily clad women abound in Daphne In the Brilliant Blue, but, there are no naughty bits to speak of. There's plenty of action, but, not much in the way of bloodshed. But, the thing that really attracted me to this series was the humor. Maia plays the straight man in a world of lunatics. My favorite scene occurs fairly early in the series. Maia and Gloria are in a speed boat, chasing another speed boat, while taking fire from the speed boat they're chasing. Maia slows down to avoid being killed and Gloria steps on Maia's head and orders her not to slow down for anything. Maia steps on the gas, her eyes get really big and she's absolutely sure that something bad is going to happen. The look on her face is just priceless. There are plenty of moments like this throughout the series.

Daphne In the Brilliant Blue, at seven volumes, is a fairly long series. Despite the length of the series, Daphne In the Brilliant Blue, does almost manage to maintain a fairly good pace throughout. The mystery surrounding Maia, when finally revealed, is a bit of a disappointment. But, I still had fun watching the series. I gave Daphne In the Brilliant Blue a 4 out of 5. The Daphne In the Brilliant Blue soundtrack CD has 28 tracks and I liked 7 tracks for a total of 25% which works out to a rating of 2 out of 4.
