Mermaid's Scar...

Mermaid's Scar is the second part of the story featured in Rumik World: Mermaid Forest...
Partake of the mermaid's flesh, the legend says, and you will live forever. But what happens when you don't want to be immortal anymore...?

Yuta, a seemingly fresh-faced young man, has been waiting over 500 years to discover the secret. Accompanying him on his eternal journey is his immortal traveling companion Mana, rescued by Yuta from her grisly fate as main course for a pack of wizened mermaid crones who had planned to regain their own youthful forms by eating her flesh. Together, Yuta and Mana travel across Japan in an attempt to see just how long it takes to become weary of immortality.

In Mermaid's Scar, Yuta and Mana meet a young boy with a terrifying secret. It's readily apparent that Masato and his young mother Misa have an unusual relationship - but is everything truly as it seems? Is Misa really a loving young mother? Is Masato really an innocent young boy? Are Yuta and Mana in danger of losing their never-ending lives...?

Based on the original comic by the world's best-selling female comic artist, Rumiko Takahashi, Mermaid's Scar is a uniquely macabre dark fantasy which explores the meaning of eternal life in an eerily stylish, graphically thrilling new way.
Mermaid's Scar is the second part of the story featured in Rumik World: Mermaid Forest. I enjoyed this unique look at the pitfalls of immortality. I had seen some of the characters before as part the Rumik World series and was anxious to see them again. There is some gore and violence and the story is actually quite good. My only regret regarding this title is that Viz didn't release a subtitled version. I used to have the dubbed VHS version. In the aftermath of the Ultimate Otaku Fall Cleanup, I decided not to keep Mermaid's Scar in my archive. I gave Mermaid's Scar a 4 out of 5.
