Homeroom Affairs...
The Star Anime Enterprises release of Homeroom Affairs is among the most obscure and rarest of all official American anime releases...
Given the age and relative obscurity of the title, it is unlikely to ever see it turn up on official American DVD. Back in the day, anime of any sort was hard to find, so, early on, I picked up everything I could get my hands on. Some early anime releases were good and some were decidedly not so good. More than likely I would have acquired, Homeroom Affairs from Tower Records on South Street. Before Tower Records went out of business, as they were a particularly good spot for rare and unusual items.
I've heard that this was rather scandalous when it was released in Japan, but, it's quite tame by modern standards. Although, it claims repeatedly to be a comedy, it's mostly drama/romance. If you like this sort of thing, you would probably be better off with Maison Ikkoku. I used to have both subtitled VHS volumes. In the aftermath of the Ultimate Otaku Fall Cleanup, I decided not to keep Homeroom Affairs in my archive. I gave Homeroom Affairs a 0 out of 5.
Part 1In 1994, JC Staff, the studio now best known for producing shows including Azumanga Daioh, Ai Yori Aoshi, Slayers, and Utena, produced a two episode OVA adaptation of Ichiro Arima's 1993 risque comedy manga series Tanin no Kankei. Those two anime OVAs were subtitled and released on American VHS in 1996 as Homeroom Affairs.
I'll teach you a lesson you'll never forget
Just try and stop this irrepressible 18-year-old! Tokiro Ehara has just landed a teaching job at an elite all-girl high school in Tokyo, and he's about to discover just how advanced his pretty pupils are - especially Miyako, an 18 year old coed with a mind all her own! Miyako's father asks Tokiro to watch over his daughter, but Tokiro soon begins to wonder, who's teaching whom? Inspired by the characters created by Ichiro Arima for the popular "Young Animal Magazine" comic strip "Tamin no Kankei", Homeroom Affairs, Part 1 is a learning experience in sexy Japanese-style comedy and romance!
Part 2
I was born reckless
Miyako's still hot for Teacher, but, hur ex-boyfriend wants to teach them both a lesson. Miyako and her teacher, Tokiro, have been living together for two months now, but, Tokiro continues to resist the eighteen-year-old's advances. The Miyako's ex arrives on the scene, and Homeroom Affairs graduates to an accelerated level of sexy comedy. Based on the characters created by Ichiro Arima for the popular "Young Animal Magazine" comic strip "Tamin no Kankei", Homeroom Affairs, Part 2 is an uproarious look at the flip side of high school life in Japan.
