Legend Of Lemnear...

Years ago, I picked up the VHS version of Legend Of Lemnear...
An ancient world living under the shadow of evil. It is an age of darkness, of sorcery -and of heroes. As the monstrous legions of the Dark Lord spread across the land, the sole surviving warrior of the devastated village searches for vengeance -Lemnear, the fabled Champion of Silver. As beautiful as she is deadly, she hunts the wizard Gardein and has vowed to kill him and his evil master to avenge the slaughter of her people.

But as Lemnear soon discovers, a greater destiny lies ahead than simply being the messenger of revenge. Within her lies an almost invincible power. A power which could change the course of history and free all mankind. A power which the Dark Lord will do anything to possess.

And now, from the slave pits of the Dark Lord's servants, to the horror of his impregnable flying fortress, Lemnear must journey to confront the face of pure evil. Can she live up to her role in the prophecy, or will all be consumed in the Dark Lord's holocaust of conquest?

Fast-paced, non-stop action and exceptional character design epitomize this graphic and mature sword and sorcery adventure. The cliche of "cold steel and hot women" could have been invented for this OAV!
At the time of this writing, Legend of Lemnear is more than twenty years old. The passage of time has not been exactly kind to Legend of Lemnear, but, if you can look past the vintage quality of the animation, then you might find Legend of Lemnear entertaining in its own right.

Legend of Lemnear is a tale of good versus evil with some bloodshed and gore and some bare breasts and a few bare bottoms. Although there is some skin on exhibit, there are no actual naughty bits. The feature culminates in a stunning final conflict between the forces of good and evil. There is quite a bit of action in the feature including some sword play, hand-to-hand combat and, of course, some sorcery. There is also some eye candy to be found in Legend of Lemnear.

You might notice that Lemnear, a white-haired sword-swinging beauty who flies around on a winged creature, is not unlike a certain white-haired beauty who also flew on a winged beast and swung a sword in one of the segments in the animated anthology, Heavy Metal, which was made a few years before Legend of Lemnear. I'm not sure if this was an intentional homage or just a fortunate happenstance, but, it certainly makes one wonder.

I wasn't entirely sure about Legend of Lemnear at first. The packaging didn't exactly say "buy me" and at first glance it seemed like just another tired old sword and sorcery tale, but, I decided to take a chance on Legend of Lemnear anyway and I was not disappointed. I used to have the subtitled VHS version and I enjoyed this title so much that I repurchased it on DVD. I gave Legend of Lemnear a 4 out of 5.
