Way back in the misty dawn of time, I picked up the VHS version of Cool Devices. According to the box that Cool Devices came in...
Critical Mass scores another bullseye (their first being Weather Report Girl) with this adult-oriented anthology. There is a degree of hype in the advertising, but, it's not too far off from the truth. There are plenty of naughty bits, but, not a whole lot of story to complicate things (chances are, you're not looking for a story anyway). I had the subtitled VHS box set of Cool Devices and my favorites episodes were Binding, Seek amd Curious Fruit. I gave it a 4 out of 5. Even with a very good rating, sadly, in the aftermath of the Ultimate Otaku Fall Cleanup, I decided not to keep it in my archive.
Before mentioning anything here, a word of warning: This is a REALLY nasty title... This series is quite possibly the most adult thing yet animated! All of these contain graphic sexual content, and should never be viewed by anyone not of age. Period. Each tape gets worse as you watch the series! ...actually three stories in one. The first segment is two young ladies dressed in the height of fashion... Well, if you like girls dressed as cats and rabbits. When they choose to please each other instead of their master, the punishment is most severe. The next segment involves a heated pool, a box cutter, and a fairly twisted guy. The third (entitled "Enema") is exactly what it says it is, showing that there is more than one way to clear up that occasional irregularity.
Kirie
Kirei, the story of an idyllic paradise vacationland... a vacationland where the clientele have a habit of disappearing at the hands of the locals. Something horrible is going on, but all our heroines are concerned with is keeping their tan even... until they too fall prey to the mystery!
Seek I and Seek II
Probably the most notorious volume of the entire series, including the infamous electrode scene! Takayuki Sawatori, the son of a famous masochistic dominator, is seeking to live up to his father's reputation and become famous in his own right with the help of his little love slave Saki. To him, she's a willing slave... to others, a pitiless dominatrix! At one time, she discovered that pain and pleasure are two sides of the same coin. Now, she no longer understands that there are two sides to a coin.
Yellow Star
There's a new man in Ayana's life, and it's her father. Stepfather is more accurate... her mother has just married an undercover detective who is quite a bit more than he appears. First, it seems he's in league with underworld types and second it appears he's trafficking in a drug called "Yellow Star". This chemical deprives its victim of their will and also heightens sexual pleasure. This would be bad enough, but it seems that Ayana's new "dad" isn't wholly satisfied with his new bride and has turned his attention to Ayana herself! This segment designed by the fan favorite Yasuomi Umetsu.
Maya I and II
Also on this tape is the two part Slave Warrior Maya story. Legend has it that one day a warrior will appear in the humblest of forms... a warrior superior to both man and woman. This warrior will be the undoing of all Lord Estilgar's nefarious plans, so he'll be understandably upset should this person appear. Into all of this appears Maya (who is both totally unaware of how she got to this strange world and decidedly female). It's unlikely that SHE will be the one who will destroy Lord Estilgar's world... but then again, this series has shown how things are not always as they appear!
Binding
Masaki Hoshino's on assignment... and on a train.. and has a vision of a woman he's never met. Awakening, he finds his luggage stolen as well as his wallet. Things go from bad to worse when he departs the train and an earthquake damages part of the track. The only thing to do is follow a pleasant woman who is waiting at the station.
Fallen Angel
Rina Yuki is a talented and popular (in her own right) Idol Singer. She's got a bright future, and a talented manager, who also happens to be her father. When he one day falls gravely ill, she meets the darker side of the entertainment business... and discovers that she owes favors to people. A lot of favors.
