Wanna Be's...

Wanna Be's is a rare example of wrestling in anime from a time when VCRs still stalked the Earth...
In the zany futuristic world of professional ladies' wrestling, the Foxy Ladies reign supreme. To defeat these treacherous and very unfeminine beasts, it seems, would require superhuman strength. The last team you'd ever expect to face these brutes in the ring is the Wanna-be's, a delicate duo, made up of the slight and dainty Eri and Miki. Somehow, the Wanna-be's find themselves scheduled to face the Foxy Ladies in the ring, with only two months of training standing between them and certain cremation. Meanwhile, immediately following the death of his father, Tetsuma Kidou has seized control of the Kidou Corporation. Bio-scientists at the firm have developed a revolutionary strength augmenting drug which has a tremendous efficacy, but is not quite perfected yet. Kidou, nevertheless, has immediate plans for the drug. When he makes the Wanna-be's coach an offer he can't refuse, the Wanna-be's find themselves at the center of a bizarre and wicked scheme. Will the Wanna-be's survive both the crime plot they're embroiled in and the fierce Foxy Ladies? Will their unwitting participation in this nasty plot be their only hope for survival? What do the Foxy Ladies eat for breakfast, anyway? Don't miss a beat of this hilarious, action-packed animated adventure starring corruption, deceit and high-tech physical chemistry. It's animation as you've never seen it before!

...with some thinly disguised "guest appearances" by real girl wrestling stars...
Wanna-Be's is a tale of female wrestling duo that have been turned into freaks of science. On the bright side, it didn't seem to have any adverse effect on their careers. The concept is a bit unusual, which is what attracted me to this title in the first place, but, the story turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. I used to have the subtitled VHS version. In the aftermath of the Ultimate Otaku Fall Cleanup, I decided not to keep it in my archive. I gave Wanna Be's a 1 out of 5.
