Non Non Biyori...
I picked up Non Non Biyori...
Non Non Biyori is not for everyone and even though nothing extraordinary happens, I still found the series entertaining and engaging. I watched the entire series in one sitting.
There is some humor in the series, but, overall, I liked the rapport between the various girls. There is a bit of fish-out-of-water vibe in the first episode, but, the overall tone of the series is light and airy. There are, of course, no naughty bits or bloodshed to be found. Hotaru's obsession with Komari borders on the creepy, but, the series manages to maintain a degree of innocence in keeping with the light and fluffy aura of the series.
Even though the series is clearly not for everyone, I found the series to be very entertaining and I would give Non Non Biyori a 4 out of 5.
Season 1Non Non Biyori seemed like something I might like. According to Wikipedia...
When Hotaru Ichijo transfers from a school in bustling Tokyo to a tiny school in a quiet countryside village, she should be experiencing major culture shock. After all, there are only three other girls in the school, and none of them are even in the same grade as her. But adjusting isn't too hard for Hotaru thanks to first grader Renge and the Koshigaya sisters, Natsumi and Komari, who are in the seventh and eighth grade respectively.
Even though it takes 20 minutes by bicycle to get to the only place that sells comics and the video store is 10 train stations away, there's something about the laid-back lifestyle that makes her feel right at ease. It's a big change from the big city, but there are still plenty of new adventures to look forward to as Hotaru learns that home really is where the heart is.
Season 2
Even though there are still only five students who attend the remote Asahigaoka Branch School, each one of the girls already has a lifetime of wonderful experiences in the carefree Japanese countryside.
Some memories may belong to just one person, like Hotaru's recollections of her first day in Asahigaoka before she'd had a chance to meet her new friends. Other memories bring an otherwise sleepy town to life for Komari, Natsumi, Renge, or even Suguru.
From daily life in school, to unforgettable holiday festivities, or even simple adventures like learning how to make okonomiyaki, new adventures are just waiting to be shared as we return to Asahigaoka in NON NON BIYORI REPEAT!
The story takes place in the countryside village of Asahigaoka, a place lacking many of the conveniences that people from the city are accustomed to. The nearest stores are miles away and the school consists of only five students, each of whom is in a different grade of elementary or middle school. Hotaru Ichijo, a fifth grader from Tokyo, transfers into Asahigaoka Branch School and has to adjust to countryside life with her new friends.Non Non Biyori is about as slice-of-life as a slice-of-life anime gets. The story spans the first year of Hotaru's stay in a quiet country village and nothing of any great consequence happens in the series. Going to school, meeting the other people and seeing the sights the countryside has to offer. Non Non Biyori is beautifully animated and showcases the exquisite pastoral setting in great detail.
