Rage Of Bahamut Genesis...

I picked up Rage Of Bahamut Genesis...
Meet Favaro Leone, professional bounty hunter and casual scoundrel. When he’s not crossing swords with his arch nemesis and former best friend, Kaisar Lidford, he can be found at the local tavern spinning tall tales to anyone who will listen. After a one-winged demoness overhears his drunken boasts, she wrangles him into an unbreakable contract that will force him to make good on the promise he made. With nothing but a destination in mind, the pair set out on their grand adventure - completely unaware of the dark forces working to fulfill an ancient prophecy that will bring about the end of the world. That is, unless a charming rogue, a clueless demon, a disgraced knight, and a tiny zombie can band together to change the course of history. Visually arresting and fun from start to finish, Rage of Bahamut is a can’t-miss title for any action-fantasy fan.
According to a post on the AnimeNation News blog from 2013:
Japanese game developer Cygames has announced the production of an anime TV series based on its Shingeki no Bahamut (Rage of Bahamut) collectable card game. Tiger & Bunny director Keiichi Satou will helm the Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis anime series at studio MAPPA. Berserk movie director Naoyuki Onda will provide character design. The Big O screenwriter Keiichi Hasegawa will provide the series scripts.
From what I gather, despite its apparent popularity, the game on which Rage Of Bahamut is based is not very good. But, the anime itself is actually very good. The focus of the show centers on a quest to a dangerous place known as Helhiem by a mysterious woman named Amira. Favaro finds himself compelled to lead the way to Helhiem courtesy of the aforementioned mysterious woman.

Meanwhile, Kaisar takes a different path which leads him to the zombie child, Rita. Later Kaisar, Rita, Favaro and Amira join forces while they continue on their quest. Rage Of Bahamut is a grand quest complete with gods and demons, angels and devils, knights and dragons, and wizards. A nice touch during the course of the series is that the line between good and evil is, at times, somewhat hazy.

There is some humor in the series, but, the tone of Rage Of Bahamut leans more towards drama than comedy. Early on, Amira clearly has some hidden power, but, Amira also demonstrates a measure of naivete. Amira shows the most growth during the course of the series. The back and forth between Favaro and Kaisar occupies some of the early episodes, but, when they both see advantage in pooling forces, they agree to set aside their difference for a period.

There is some eye candy to be found in Rage Of Bahamut. But, at the heart of the series is a grand adventure full of interesting characters and places. Although, the series does profess a dark underbelly, the humor in the series brightens the overall tone. There are no naughty bits, but, there is some bloodshed and death. Overall, I would give Rage Of Bahamut a 4 out of 5.
