Ultimate Otaku Teacher...

Ultimate Otaku Teacher centers on Junichiro Kagami, a genius obsessed with all things anime, who, surprise, becomes a teacher...
Volume 1
From A-1 Pictures, the studio behind Sword Art Online, comes a slice-of-life comedy that's in a class of its own!

Junichiro Kagami is on his sister's last nerve. Despite his genius and scientific accomplishments, he's spent most of his adult life cooped up inside, surrounded by anime and manga, working on trivial things like a blog. But now, it's time for him to get a real job! His reason for being such a bum? He suffers from YD: a debilitating illness that means he can only do things he yearns to do. Tired of this lame excuse, his sister gets him a job doing something he'd never expect teaching!

Teaching is the last thing Kagami yearns to do, at least until he comes across the various problems his students face outside of the classroom. Between their quirky dreams, serious attitude problems, and surprising secrets, Junichiro is definitely in for some far-out lessons.

What he teaches these kids will be beyond the books!

Volume 2
The ultimate otaku teacher, Junichiro Kagami, is back with his unique group of students. But as the school year goes on, things start to get...spooky!

When tasked to clean out the old dorms, Kagami and his students stumble upon the ghost of a former classmate. All she wants to do is pass on to the next life but is having a little trouble. Are they up for this spiritual lesson? Things heat up when conflict arises between a gang leader and pop idol. Are street smarts more important than school smarts? Once things start to calm down, even Kagami's most troubled students start settling into better lives.

Realizing that he's neglected things he used to care about like his blog, figurines, and anime, Kagami begins to question if teaching is where he truly belongs. When the opportunity to work on his Anywhere Door arises, he'll have to make a tough choice. What does Kagami really yearn to do: teach or research!?
Ultimate Otaku Teacher follows the exploits of Junichiro Kagami, a genius NEET (not in education, employment, or training) and anime blogger who would like nothing better than to sit at home reveling in all things anime -- particularly anime figures -- wouldn’t we all!. After his sister threatens him and his anime figures with bodily harm, our intrepid hero reluctantly takes a job as a high school teacher.

Needless to say, Junichiro’s teaching style is a bit unorthodox – like using a social media enabled game app to determine which of his students might be the subject of bullying and then employing an over-the-top example of bullying the bully involving a bit of computer hacking to teach the bullies a lesson in karma. Early on in Ultimate Otaku Teacher, the jokes are all about the fish out water experience as Junichiro, an otaku, finds himself in an unusual environment -- working. But, as the series progresses, more often than not, Junichiro, learns as much from the teaching experience as his students.

There is, of course, no bloodshed or gore and no naughty bits to speak of in Ultimate Otaku Teacher. While I was generally pleased with the series, I lost interest after a while and decided to not continue following the series after the first volume. Overall, Ultimate Otaku Teacher is reminiscent of the schoolyard battleground genre, but, with a different twist and a unique point of view. I would give Ultimate Otaku Teacher a 2 out of 5.
