Grimoire Of Zero...
I took the opportunity to see Grimoire of Zero...
In the world in which Zero and the unnamed mercenary travel, magic is a relatively new invention and there are problems with rouge witches using their powers for evil. The governing authority has declared war on the rouge witches and placed bounties on the heads of witches, which entices humans and beastfallen alike to hunt witches for profit. Meanwhile, among the witches, there are competing factions vying for different strategies to peacefully coexist and/or exterminate the opposition. As incidents of magical violence increase, tensions between normal humans, beastfallen and witches escalates, with all out war looming on the horizon.
Grimoire Of Zero has quite a lot of political drama mixed with some action adventure. So, the pace of the series is a bit slow in the middle, but, in the latter half of the series, events move rapidly and build to a wonderful climax as the aforementioned conflict between humans and the varied factions of witches looms large. Zero, the mercenary and other allies rally together in an attempt to intervene and prevent a catastrophe. There is some violence and bloodshed in the series, but, in general the series isn't really gory at all. Much of the action in the series revolves around the use of magical incantations, but, there are a handful of fist fights and some sword play.
Although the ubiquitous bath scene is present, there are no naughty bits to be found in Grimoire Of Zero. Despite the slow pacing and the heavy political undertones, the series did manage to hold my attention and was enjoyable to watch. There are some interesting plot twists in the latter episodes that helped to both build tension and increase my interest in the series. Of all the characters in the series, I found the mercenary's gruff exterior concealing a kind heart, quite endearing. He can be rude and unpleasant, but, he can also be kind and very loyal once one has earned his trust. Overall, I liked the series a lot and would give Grimoire of Zero a 3 out of 5.
Like most Beastfallen, the half-tiger known as Mercenary hates the witches who created them, so when he's offered a chance to hunt witches, he quickly agrees. But things go spectacularly wrong when he's rescued by a witch instead and she wants him to become her bodyguard!Grimoire Of Zero tells the story of an unnamed beastfallen (a human in beastly form) mercenary, who while hunting for and being hunted by witches, happens to save a witch named Zero. The two come to an arrangement and embark on an epic quest to find a mysterious book that could, if wielded by the wrong hands, end the world -- the Grimoire Of Zero. Zero, as it turns out, has lived a very sheltered existence and knows almost nothing about the outside world. The mercenary, on the other hand, is world weary, well-traveled and a seasoned veteran of many conflicts.
Making matters worse, she's seeking a missing book, the Grimoire of Zero, which contains the secrets of Magic, which could possibly end the world if it falls into the wrong hands. And the author of the book? Zero herself! Worst of all, Zero actually seems to think that Mercenary is cute and cuddly, and wants to do terribly inappropriate things with him! But, if he does as she asks, Zero promises to make Mercenary human, and with that reward in mind, there isn't much that he won't do to help retrieve the Grimoire of Zero!
