Jason of Star Command...

I was out and about looking for new and wonderful anime and guess what came home with me instead...
Working from within a secretive section of Space Academy, a daring soldier of fortune named Jason joins with his friends to combat the sinister forces that conspire to dominate the stars. Jason is aided on his missions by Commanders Carnavin and Stone, computer expert Nicole, strong alien Samantha, eccentric scientist Dr. E.J. Parsafoot, and two robots, Peepo and the portable W1K1. Together they face the evil machinations of Dragos - the self-proclaimed "Master of the Cosmos" - and his alien minions aboard the Dragonship.
Believe it or don't... Jason of Star Command was a hit when it aired on Saturday mornings, beginning on January 19, 1978 on CBS. The most expensive children's show on television (at roughly $200,000 per episode), the series utilized sets and props from its predecessor, Space Academy, and featured veterans of Star Trek among its cast, plus special effects personnel who had created some of the visual effects in Star Wars! Jason of Star Command originally aired as a multi-part cliff-hanger serial during the Tarzan and the Super 7 anthology series, but, during its second year, it spun off into a half-hour show of its own. With its action-oriented serialized plots and a memorable space-age villain in Dragos, Jason of Star Command was a hit for two seasons, and entertained audiences worldwide in syndication thereafter.... Although, I'm not sure at this point, where in the world, those audiences were.

In January 1978, I was 9 years old. I remember bits and pieces of the show with a general sense of fondness, but, I must confess that, now that I have the DVDs, I haven't yet found the courage to actually sit through an entire episode. However, I did check out some of the special features including the documentary on Jason of Star Command. Just between us, time has not been kind to the actor that played Jason (Craig Littler aka the Gorton Fisherman). There are also some rare gems to be seen in the trailer gallery, including She-Ra, ISIS and Blackstar.
