Raccoons and Other Animated Classics...

After recent trips to YouTube yielded a Cosmic Christmas and other animated gems from the past, I developed an interest in some other animation from the early days of Nelvana. Intergalactic Thanksgiving aka Please Don't Eat the Planet seemed like an interesting story, so, I gave it a try.
With a new twist on an old holiday, Intergalatic Thanksgiving or Please Don't Eat the Planet is a delightful animated special combining space age fantasy with the old and revered traditions that make Thanksgiving a great festive holiday.

I also looked into Take Me Up To The Ballgame and despite its age (almost thirty years), I enjoyed it even more than Intergalactic Thanksgiving.
In this interplanetary baseball story, a group of friends are playing a sandlot game on Earth that is noticed by Irwin, an outer space promoter of baseball. The haphazard team consists of an eagle, a beaver, a bear, a kangaroo, and a mole. Irwin invites the Earth team to play against the Outer Space All-Stars, an awesome team that has never lost a game, of that matter, been scored upon. Their secret: they are the biggest cheaters in the universe.

While I was visiting some of the more ancient Nelvana properties, I decided to check out Romie-0 and Julie-8...
Two rival robotics companies in the future release their latest creations at a robotics convention, claiming each to be the latest and greatest in technological advances. Mega Stellar Company's release is a robot boy named Romie-O, while Super Solar Cybernetics has released a girl robot named Julie-8. Unforeseen to each of the company's creators, is how each of the advanced robots soon falls in love with the other.

Some time ago, I had the opportunity to purchase a DVD set of the Raccoons TV series. Unfortunately, I let the opportunity pass and now it appears that the Raccoons TV series is out of print. It may come back someday, but, in the meantime, I really wanted to have at least one episode for the archive. The very first special created with the characters from the TV series was a Christmas special, so, that was what I settled on...
In the Raccoons Christmas Special, Ranger Dan receives a call that all the trees in the forest are disappearing. Tommy and Julie are concerned, but Dan is doing the investigating. Meanwhile, in another part of the forest, a trio of raccoons, Ralph, Melissa and Bert prepare their home for Christmas. After a brief misunderstanding between the Ranger's family and the raccoons, Schaeffer, the family dog, along with the raccoons set out to investigate the deforestation of of the Evergreen Forest.

I've been rather busy lately catching up on some old animated gems. From what I've heard, I don't expect the Nelvana shorts to be available anytime soon. The Raccoons did make an appearance on DVD a few years ago, so, they might come back on DVD. The music rights might be an issue if the series is re-released. It's a bit hit or miss at this stage.
