Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind aka Warriors of the Wind...
As it happened, one the first anime that I collected was Warriors of the Wind, a heavily edited version of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind which is notable for its rather cryptic cover box showing characters that do not appear in the feature...

In an interesting side note, after Disney announced its intention to release an uncut version of Nausicaa, Anchor Bay decided to discontinue distribution of the edited version even though they still had a legal right to continue distribution of the edited version.
There are a few notable differences between the earlier Anchor Bay release and the uncut Disney release that I am aware of (there may be others)...
From one of the most celebrated filmmakers in the history of animation and the creator of the Acadmy Award-winning "Spirited Away" comes Hayao Miyazzki's epic masterpiece Nausisaa of the Valley of the Wind.
A thousand years after a global war, a seaside kingdom I known as the Valley Of The Wind remains one of only a few areas still populated. Led by the courageous Princess Nausicaa, the people of the Valley are engaged in a constant struggle with powerful insects called Ohmu, who guard a poisonous jungle that is spreading across the Earth. Nausicaa and her brave companions, together with the people of the Valley, strive to restore the bond between humanity and the Earth.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. This film features exotic settings, impactful music and a timeless story about courage and compassion in the face of danger.

The original [Anchor Bay] release of the film [Warriors of the Wind] was a horrendously mangled version of Nausicaa. About 22 minutes were cut from the original to produce this version. Miyazaki has said he would rather people forget about this version. Academics and laymen alike still ponder the mystery of just who the characters on the cover of the video really are...
- The Anchor Bay version is missing some scenes in the very beginning when Nausicaa is exploring the toxic jungle.
- The Anchor Bay version is missing all scenes that refer to Nausicaa's secret place and the experiments she conducts within.
- In the Anchor Bay version, Ohmu had their names changed to Gorgons.
- In the Anchor Bay version, Nausicaa had her name changed to Zandra.
- In the Anchor Bay version, after Nausicaa fell through a sink hole to a space beneath the toxic jungle, the dialogue was changed to obscure references to Nausicaa's earlier research in her secret place.
Now that Disney has finally released an uncut version of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, we can see this film the way it was meant to be seen. The scenes that I like the most are the ones featuring the Ohmu, Like the one Omhu bursting from the toxic jungle in the beginning of the movie and climactic confrontation near the end of the movie. I used to have the original dubbed VHS release. I repurchased the uncut Disney release on DVD. I also have the manga series. The story in the manga is essentially the same as the anime, but, some characters like Kushana are portrayed in a less two-dimensional light in the manga. I gave Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind a 4 out of 5. The Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind soundtrack CD has 13 tracks and I liked 5 tracks for a total of 38.4% which works out to a rating of 2 out of 4.
