Pet Shop Of Horrors...

A while back, I picked up Pet Shop Of Horrors...
Based on the hit manga by Mori Akino, Pet Shop of Horrors comes to life in animation. Welcome to Chinatown's most unique pet shop. There is a variety of exotic creatures to choose from, each with an intriguing tale to share with the lucky owner. But be careful, what you see is not necessarily what you get. Here is a collection of four stories of lost love, second chances, and redemption. Whether or not the client can handle the responsibility, however, is a matter of life and death.

Daughter
"Daughter" is a nightmarish tale of parents who killed their daughter with too much love. In an attempt to alleviate their sorrow, they approach Count D, who agrees to sell them a rare breed of rabbit which just happens to look like the couple's dead progeny. There are strict rules that must he followed in caring for the rabbit, and the consequences for indulging the little creature are deadly.

Delicious
Mermaids can he jealous, possessive creatures, and in "Delicious", this race is known to change shape to walk amongst humans. Evangeline Blue, beloved idol singer, commits suicide by throwing herself off the ship where her wedding is being held. The Count sells the guilt-ridden husband a special aquatic animal a mermaid amnesiac who washed ashore the same night that Evangeline leapt from the ship's deck. She looks like Eva, and sings like Eva. Consumed with guilt and hope, Eva's husband is determined to share his life with her forever.

Despair
In "Despair," Robin Hendrix, a one-bit-wonder actor with a penchant for reptiles, could never break the mold that he was typecast into. Depressed, Robin selects a truly special new reptilian companion, a rare member of the nearly extinct Medusa subspecies. This exotic lizard appears as half woman, half snake, with mythical magical powers. Together, they face the hardships of faith and devotion.

Dual
The holy beast known as the Kirin, referred to as the legendary king of all animals, has the power to make a sovereign of his or her master. One of the most closely guarded secrets, the Kirin will choose its master carefully and grant one wish, no matter what the consequence. In "Dual", two men are brought together to wield this awesome force, and only one will survive.
Pet Shop of Horrors is a collection of short stories revolving around the mysterious Count D and his pet shop. Be careful what you ask for, you may get it. As one would expect from a horror themed anime, there's some blood and gore. Some of the stories are a bit predictable, but, thankfully the series isn't very long. Overall, it's not as bad at it could have been. I would give Pet Shop of Horrors a 2 out of 5.
