Hanging Out In The Pool At The Gates Of Hell...

This is somewhat off-topic, but, I felt like sharing. It's summertime here and at this time of year, a dip in a pool is generally a good thing. Recently, I was playing a mod for Doom called Hunter's Moon and I thought it would be a good idea to see if it was possible to push an enemy into a pool of water in Onerium's Dungeon. And, as it turns out, YES, enemies can be pushed into the water. And, even better, quite a few enemies actually jumped into the water of their own accord. The first two images[1][2] show some of the more powerful enemies, including a Mancubus, in the water.

The less powerful enemy types appeared to be too fragile to be pushed into the water. So, during my first attempt, in the pool, there are mostly more powerful enemy types. The one exception is a lone demon dog, apparently a variant of a Pinky[3], who managed to survive the plunge. As it happens, in a later attempt, I managed to get several Imps[4] and a common Pinky[5] into the water, but, with less powerful enemies, one must be very careful with the Taser or they will die after only two hits. Amazingly, I even manged to get one Chaingunner[6] into the water. It might be possible to get a zombie soldier into the water, but, the difficulty lies in getting the enemy into proper position with only one hit. If you're looking for extra credit[7], you could try luring enemies to the first pool of water at the very beginning of Onerium's Dungeon. I manged to get one enemy into the first pool.

In the short video clip, after luring several enemies into the water during my first attempt, I jump into the water and swim around as a variety of enemies in the water, chase and shoot at me.

Further complicating the experiment, quite a few enemies had fixed boundaries and could not be lured beyond their boundaries to their doom. Specifically, all of the enemies up to the start of the walkway that spans the water, could not pass onto the walkway. And, the enemies at the bottom of an elevator shaft beyond the walkway, could not venture onto the elevator platform and therefore, could not leave their confinement at the bottom of the elevator shaft to be lured to their doom.

There are still quite a few enemies to be found in the latter stages of Onerium's Dungeon, but, for the purposes of this experiment, I believe I have more than enough enemies in this fish bowl for now. Of course, it goes without saying, that I made liberal use of the immortality cheat to make this happen. The more acrobatic enemies tended to jump into the water of their own accord. While, the others had to be coaxed into the water at the business end of a Taser.

Why would anyone bother to do this? Idle hands are the devil's play things, so, when visiting the gates of Hell, why NOT push demons into a pool of water. By the way, I used version 2.95 of the Hunter's Moon mod for this experiment, but, this is also possible in version 3.0.

In terms of silly things to do with a Doom mod, in my humble opinion, pushing demons into a pool of water isn't the silliest thing one could do, but, it is slightly more interesting than using Sgt. Mark IV's Brutal Doom 64 mod to breed Lost Souls by antagonizing Pain Elementals and artificially increase the number of enemies on a given map -- my personal best is about 700 enemies using Map 31 -- In The Void.

That's all folks! Enjoy.
