Neo Ranga...
I like a good monster epic, so, sometime ago, I picked up Neo Ranga...
Volume 1According to Wikipedia...
A God is Risen
Across the ocean, on the tiny island kingdom of Barou, something wakes an ancient god-Neo Ranga-from his slumber. He is drawn to Tokyo, and nothing's going to stop him as he searches for Minami, Ushio and Yuuhi, three beautiful sisters who are unwittingly linked to him. But instead of rolling out the red carpet, the military rolls out the weaponry, and things start to get nasty.
As Neo Ranga goes on his rough-and-tumble, crush-and-crumble romp through the city, the mystery grows. Is he a vehicle for corruption, or is he simply uncovering what already dwells within the city? Is he a messenger with a warning for humankind, or just a big boy out for a good time? Can Ranga defeat the military's fully-loaded ACE robot and the power-mad pilot who's out to blast him to bits? When they're forced to confront him - and each other - will the people of Tokyo actually learn anything from all this? And what's behind Ranga's mysterious eyes?
Volume 2
Lost in the Spectacle
When Neo Ranga first appeared in Tokyo, he was on a mission. But this time, he's on display. Suddenly, the mighty monster-god has been reduced to a marketing gimmick.
On the surface, it's all fun, games and greed. But things are not as simple as they seem. While everyone is having fun and making money, criminal forces are working behind the scenes. As corruption runs rampant, the conflict grows. The mystery escalates. And some rather interesting characters - including strange visitors from Barou and a newer, more powerful ASE robot - join in the action.
Volume 3
The Right of Kings
It's fun in the sun for the Shimabara sisters on the island of Kyushu. The locals have even planned a festival to honor Neo Ranga. But when sinister forces awaken another old god, all plans for fun fall to the wayside. And this ancient god isn't the only thing trying to tear down the town...
Meanwhile, anti-Ranga sentiment is on the rise. In Tokyo, ugly rumors have started to spread that Neo Ranga is no god, but a devil! With the National Defense Force and the U.S. Army standing by, what kind of welcome will the girls receive on their return?
Will they be able to convince the people that Neo Ranga is truly good? Will they show themselves to be true kings? Get ready for a gripping showdown as the girls go up against criminals, politicians, and gods alike!
Volume 4
A Nation Apart
Neo Ranga's back! And a warm welcome is the last thing on the Japanese government's agenda, though there's not much it can do to move a gargantuan monster with god-like powers.
On the fringes, Neo Ranga's enemies continue their attacks, waging war both in the streets and in the minds of people. Spreading lies, kidnapping loved ones, resurrecting new gods - nothing is off limits when the stakes are this high. Will the Shimabara sisters be able to win the people over? Or will they face an entire country's wrath?
Volume 5
Ghosts of Days Gone By
They say justice never sleeps, and in this gripping chapter of the Neo Ranga saga, the Shimabara sisters certainly have enough keeping them up at night. Caught between cruel conspirators and obtuse officials, hammered by the violent tides of public opinion, the girls give in to more personal ghosts that tear at the conscience's core.
The rift in Yuuhi's heart threatens to spread to her family during Christmas, a holiday for which she bears a deep hatred. Ushio triggers bitter memories from Haseoka's troubled past, which he must confront to save her future. But nothing thus far has prepared the sisters for the biggest shock of all-the mystifying return of their long-lost brother, Masaru. Is it really him... or something taking advantage of their greatest weakness?
Volume 6
The Search for Paradise
The paradise built by Ushio, Minami, and Yuuhi is slipping through their fingers. New rampages and resurrections bring forth the most difficult enemy yet-the god Ibuki. Overwhelming Neo Ranga with an awesome display of power, this new foe leaves him for dead in the snowy wastes of northern Japan.
Neo Ranga lives, but barely. Strange beings descend upon the Earth bearing a message: finish Neo Ranga off or face annihilation.
[Neo Ranga] is about three orphaned sisters who have, through a mysterious twist of fate, inherited their very own god -- Neo Ranga... It is vaguely humanoid in shape, colored black and gray, and covered with red swirls. Neo Ranga does not talk, and is only able to express itself with its movements and its mysterious eyes...I like a good monster epic, but, Neo Ranga just didn't appeal to me. I lost interest in the series after two volumes. Be aware that the episodes are 15 minutes each and rather than being skimpy, each episode is jammed with content and can, at times, be overwhelming for those that like to read their anime. With a giant monster walking through the streets, one has to expect a certain amount of violence. There are no naughty bits to speak of. I gave Neo Ranga 2 out of 5.
