Strike The Blood...

Image
I've always had a soft spot for vampires. I've rarely met a vampire I didn't like. So, of course, when  Strike The Blood  said "buy me", I had to... Kojou Akatsuki is a normal high school student. Living in Itogami City, he tries his best not to stick out. Considering creatures of legend populate the city, you'd think he'd have no problem! Humanity's rise from the dark ages has brought mythological entities like vampires, spirits, and other things to near extinction in the modern day. In exchange for being able to continue to exist, they've all agreed to live on the man-made island, otherwise known as the Demon District. Unfortunately, despite Kojou's attempts to keep his head down, someone has taken notice of him. A mysterious girl follows him, and when they finally meet face to face, she exposes him for what he is: the Fourth Progenitor, a vampire powerful enough to shatter the fragile peace that has settled over Itogami City, and plunge

Sankarea Edits: TV14 Vs. TVMA...

Image
A few years ago, I picked up the broadcast (TV 14) version of  Sankarea , then sometime later, I picked up the uncut (TV MA) version of Sankarea . Recently, I was inspired to perform a side-by-side comparison of the two versions. Why? It seemed like a good idea at the time... Zombie-obsessed Furuya is making a potion to reanimate his dead cat when he meets Rea. She's about as miserable as a girl can get, thanks to her creepy, domineering father. When the pain becomes too much, she tries to commit suicide with a sip of Furuya's weird elixir. The potion doesn't kill her but it does turn her into a zombie after she falls from a cliff. Now that Rea's undead and ready to finally live, she hides out with Furuya, who's always dreamed of having a zombie girlfriend. Their one-of-a-kind relationship comes with some challenges, like the fact that Rea is decomposing. Even worse, her freak-show dad is dangerously determined to get her back under his control. As Furuya fights

Summer Wars...

Image
Summer Wars seemed like something I might enjoy... Kenji is your typical teenage misfit. He's good at math, bad with girls, and spends most of his time hanging out in the all-powerful, online community known as OZ. His second life is the only life he has - until the girl of his dreams, Natsuki, hijacks him for a starring role as a fake fiance at her family reunion. Things only get stranger from there. A late-night email containing a cryptic mathematic riddle leads to the unleashing of a rogue AI intent on using the virtual word of OZ to destroy the real world, literately. As Armageddon looms on the horizon, Kenji and his new family set aside their differences and band together to save the worlds they inhabit. According to Wikipedia ... After producing The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Madhouse was asked to produce something new. [Director Mamoru Hosoda] and writer Satoko Okudera conceived a story about a social network and a stranger's connection with a family. The real-

Celestial Method...

Image
Celestial Method appeared sweet and had a hint of something other-worldly... It's been seven years since Nonoka Komiya last lived in Lake Kiriya City. However, while she knew that there would be changes in the town, she's still unprepared for what she finds upon her return: A giant saucer hovers over the entire city, as it has since shortly after she and her family left. Stranger yet, a girl she doesn't know, Noel, is waiting for her, claiming that they have met before. Confused, Nonaka tries to focus on reconnecting with her old friends, but odd memories, suppressed in the wake of her mother's death, begin to float to the top of her consciousness. Can it be that she has met Noel before? And how does this connect with the appearance of the saucer itself? To solve the riddle, Nonoka must join with her friends and rediscover the events that occurred before she left Lake Kiriya. Because there's more than a mystery that must be solved: there's a promise that

Omamori Himari...

Image
I have a soft spot for cat girls, so, of course,  Omamori Himari  had to come home with me... Yuuto Amakawa's life goes from ordinary to pawsitively arousing when beautiful demons start showing up! So what's the problem with cat demon Himari Noihara hanging around and on him all the while calling him master? Just the small fact that Yuuto is completely allergic to her! Unfortunately, he'll have to suffer in silence, as Himari is dead set on sticking by his side in order to protect him from the Ayakashi demons hell-bent on seeking revenge against demon slayers. And it's just Yuuto's luck that he is the only remaining descendant of the Amakawa family, one of twelve demon slayer families who fought and killed Ayakashi for hundreds of years. Yuuto would prefer to keep the peace, but he may not have a choice to stay out of this long-running war. Between the cat girl, sensual water deities, and boisterous demons galore, Yuuto will have to do all he can to stay abrea

Hatenkou Yugi...

Image
I've seen the ten episodes of  Hatenkou Yugi  that are available and the story seems somewhat unfinished... When most parents decide that their children need to see more of the world, they send their offspring on cruises or vacations. Rahzel Anadis's father simply kicks her out of the house with little more than the clothes on her back, the tiny hat on her head, and her stuffed bear with a blindfold. Being as resourceful as she is quirky, however, Rahzel quickly manages to recruit two tall, dark, and dangerous gentlemen as traveling companions. Well, tall and dark describes the oversexed Baroqueheat, while the moodier Alzeid is tall and pale. Though exactly how these brooding bad boys benefit from the arrangement is a bit less clear; especially since Rahzel spends the money they make performing perilous missions as fast as they've earned it. Could it be her endless optimism and quest for fun that has them bedazzled? Or is the connection something literally more magical?

Yozakura Quartet...

Image
Yozkura Quartet  centers around a group of demons and a human as they try to protect the human and demon residents of the small town of Sakurashin... When demons walk the streets, the cops need to recruit more demons! In a town where humans and demons co-exist, it takes more than a normal police force to maintain the peace. Enter the Hiizumi Life Counseling Office, a fantastic foursome of unique teenagers, each gifted with an amazing super power! Since it sometimes takes real demon-fire to fight demon fire, the first three quarters of the team aren't exactly human: Ao, a cat-eared telepath; Kotoha, a half-human conjurer; and Hime, descended from a dragon (and the town's acting mayor), all of whom also happen to be delightfully female. Rounding out the group is the token male and human, Akina, the office director and "Oyakume," capable of banishing spirits permanently (and from their point of view quite fatally) via a process called tuning. They may not look as i

Re-Kan...

Image
In Re-Kan , we follow the adventures of Hibiki Amami and her classmates and her otherworldly ghost friends... Narumi Inoue has a problem with the new girl in school. It's not that Hibiki Amami is impolite or a bully... it's just that she sees, speaks with, and befriends ghosts! Now, it's at the point that when Amami's around, Inoue sometimes sees them too, spelling disaster for a girl who's terrified of anything supernatural. However, Amami's genuine kindness makes it hard for Inoue to ignore her, especially when her friends Kyoko, Kana, and Makoto, as well as the other students, have accepted Amami's habit of talking to thin air and walking around invisible obstacles. With gentle coaxing (and the knowledge that her departed grandmother is watching over her), Inoue finds herself immersed in Amami's strange, otherworldly adventures. Fulfilling the last wishes of the dead might not be a normal after-school activity, but at least they'll always kn
