Kubo And The Two Strings...

Image
I had seen previews for Kubo And The Two Strings and the visuals looked really good, but, I did not see it during its theatrical run. I did, however, eagerly await its release on DVD... From the acclaimed animation studio LAIKA (Coraline) comes an epic original action adventure featuring the voice talents of Academy Award winners Charlize Theron and Matthew McConaughey. Kubo mesmerizes the people in his village with his magical gift for spinning wild tales with origami. When he accidentally summons an evil spirit seeking vengeance, Kubo is forced to go on a quest to solve the mystery of his fallen samurai father and his mystical weaponry, as well as discover his own magical powers. Kubo and the Two Strings is a wildly imaginative, magical adventure.

Asylum Session...

Image
Sometime ago, I picked up Asylum Session ... In a world where civilization has run its course and the mechanics of society have failed, a chosen few are still born with the ability to dream. Forced to run when her father blocks her visions of becoming an artist, Hiyoko finds herself drawn into a strange tent city set up in the ruins of an abandoned stadium, a place the residents call The Asylum. It is in this shadow community where she meets other gifted youths, including the mysterious Akira, that she finds herself and her purpose. When profiteering officials and police plot to tear the Asylum down, destroying their last sanctuary, Hiyoko and the other refuges choose to fight back rather than flee. But rather than resort to weapons, their unexpected challenge is to create a street festival, using art and culture to win the hearts of the people: a festival they call the Asylum Session.

The Sidebar And The Nuclear Option...

Image
Recently, a visitor stopped by with a question regarding the sidebar and the margins. In general, adjustments can be made to the content area, the sidebar area and the margins through the Widths menu by selecting Theme > Customize > Advanced > Widths . I've found it useful to let the Contempo template do most of the heavy lifting, but, since the template isn't ideally suited for really wide screens, there can be a lot of white space on really wide screens. So, for screens that exceed a certain width, I use a percentage for the maximum width rather than a fixed number. This allows the content area to use more of what would otherwise be empty space. The CSS snippet below overrides the fixed number defined in the Widths menu, but, only on screens wider than 1300 pixels:

A Hamburger By Any Other Name...

Image
Recently, someone stopped by to ask if it was possible to add the text "Menu" below the hamburger icon in the Contempo template. The short answer is YES . There are two ways to make the change. The text can be added using CSS as shown below or the text can be added manually to the theme HTML, but, editing the theme HTML is not really my area of expertise, so, I'll leave that to the fine folks at the Blogger Help Forum  or if Blogger is feeling a bit less than useful today, the fine folks at StackOverflow will be happy to help.
