Several years ago, I picked up the Yu Yu Hakusho movie: Poltergeist Report ... For some considerable time, I had thoroughly ignored  Karin . I did notice it on the store shelves, but, had for some unknown reason decided not to take any interest in the series... Sometime ago, I picked up the VHS version of  Wind Named Amnesia ... No one could have prepared for it; it came silently, sweeping across the earth. And everyone it touched forgot... everything. The amnesia wind swept away all of mankind's knowledge and thousands of years of human civilization vanished in an instant.

Sometime ago, I picked up the VHS version of Wicked City ... Wicked City is a tour de force... breathtaking images of monsters, futuristic societies, other dimensions, explosive warfare bordering on the apocalyptic, and sexual situations in which humans and monsters repeatedly metamorphose into other entities.

Since my local video store doesn't carry *any* titles distributed by NIS America, I had to order a handful of NISA releases from an online retailer. Among the titles that I have recently purchased is Arakawa Under the Bridge ... Volume 1 Ko Ichinomiya's family motto is "Never be indebted to anyone," but after losing his pants and falling into the Arakawa River, he quickly finds himself in debt to his savior, the cutely insane Nino who happens to live under the bridge. To repay her, he vows to help her with her desire to "experience love." Along the way he'll meet the river's other residents, including a hot-blooded kappa, a Sister in drag, and a literal rock star.

When the topic of who will care for her comes up, the family shirks all responsibility of raising this "shameful" child. Mayo Chiki  seemed somewhat interesting, if a bit exaggerated and convoluted, so, I thought I would give it a try... When you've got acute gynophobia, even a pretty girl can be like a malady, and as the sparring partner for his family of female wrestlers, Sakamachi Kinjiro has the worst case ever! Just one touch makes his nose bleed, so school's a bloody nightmare even before Kanade, the principal's twisted daughter, deduces both Kinjiro's "feminine issue" and that his name contains the sounds "Chi" and "Kin" back to back. But Chi-Kinjiro's female troubles don't totally redline until a wrong turn in the men's room exposes the secret Subaru, Kanade's manservant, has been hiding in the water closet. Years ago, when all manner of wonderful things were available on video tape, I picked up the VHS version of  Twilight of the Cockroaches ... The story of an impending roach Holocaust in a Tokyo apartment complex, as told from the insects' point of view, wherein the animated insects are the hereos and the live-action humans are the villains. Whether viewed as a diverting action film or as an allegory of genocide, TWILIGHT OF THE COCKROACHES is the most original picture of the year. With its subtle allusions to Hiroshima and Dachau, this comedy has unexpected resonance. You will think twice before getting out that can of Blockade.

I recently added Usavich to the archive... Putin and Kirenenko are two odd inmates stuck in a bizarre Russian prison. Twin Dolls bears some similarity to  La Blue Girl , in that they are both examples of the demons-run-amok genre of adult-oriented anime... Six years ago, I began a three-year subscription to Heavy Metal magazine. When my subscription was due, I promptly renewed my subscription for another three-year period and received a subscription confirmation from Wine magazine. Sometime ago, I picked up the VHS version of  Shinesman ... The Special Duty Combat Unit Shinesman. Hiroya Matsumoto, hoping to become a great employee like his late father, has just been hired at Right Corporation, a top trading company. Little does he know that he's been recruited for a very mysterious department within the company - the Special Duty Combat Unit: SHINESMAN... which must face a terrible alien menace unbeknownst to Earth. Lately, I decided to revisit Serial Experiments Lain ... Volume 1 Navi We're all Connected... There is a world around us, a world of people, tactile sensation and culture. There is a wired world, inside the computer, of images, personalities, virtual experiences, and a culture all of its own. The process I came up with, used a system of meta tags that would indicate what the next and previous titles where in the navigation. There was a certain amount of overhead involved in setting up the meta tags, but, once established, it was very easy to maintain.

A while ago, AnimEigo released Baoh ... A secret organization called "Doress" has funded the development of a genetically engineered parasite code-named "Baoh". I first discovered a fansub version of  Bastard!  at a comic book convention a year or so before its official US release... Volume 1 Resurrection A lone warlock freed from years of imprisonment, stands against an army of destruction bent on world conquest and the resurrection of an ancient evil, Ansla-Sax. But Dark Schneider is not protecting the desperate people of Meta-Rikana out of the goodness of his heart. After all, they were the ones who imprisoned him for leading this same army against their city for the first time. However, he's not about to let his old army show him up. Besides, his new girlfriend is counting on him and it's been awhile since he had some fun.

Battle Angel  was one of those titles that showed up without much fan fare, but, really made a lasting impression on the early anime community... Gally... a cool and efficient bounty hunter, armed with knife, fists and a lethal metal body. She is the Battle Angel; a Hunter-Warrior paid by "The Factory" to eliminate Scrap Iron City's most wanted and dangerous criminals.
