R.O.D. (Read or Die)...

A while back, I picked up R.O.D. (Read or Die)...

OVA

Based on the popular manga of Hideyuki Kurata, Read or Die is a three-episode OVA series notable for it's exceptional animation and design. Directed by Kouji Masunari (Tenchi Muyo in Love) with Production Design by Kunyuki Jinguji (Trigun).

The library of Congress never planned for this! A sinister plot is afoot and only one young school teacher with an overdeveloped affinity for literature can stop it - Ms. Yomiko Readman... better known to her colleagues in Section A of Library Special Operations as "Agent Paper."

It seems someone is bent upon procuring several rare volumes of a lost Beethoven text and has somehow enlisted a few of history's most extraordinary ladies and gentlemen to aid in the endeavor. From the banks of the Ganges to the burgeoning book stalls of Tokyo, Ms. Readman and her fellow super-powered operatives must tangle with the likes of Tokugawa-era scientist Gennai Hiraga, aviation pioneer Otto Lilienthal, and 19th century entomologist Jean-Henri Fabre in a desperate race to find the books and save the world!

Action and adventure abound in this thrilling anime series featuring top-rate animation. Contains the complete R.O.D. OVA series - three thirty-minute episodes.

Volume 7

The R.O.D. time-line begins with the R.O.D. OVA series, in which Yomiko, a magic user specializing in the manipulation of paper, is the main character. Read or Dream is a manga that follows the story of three paper using sisters, Michelle, Maggie, and Anita. R.O.D. - The TV is a TV series that continues the story-line from six years after the events in the R.O.D. OVA series and involves characters from Read or Die and Read or Dream.

I have the OVA and all seven volumes of the TV series. I didn't really like the art box for the R.O.D. TV series. It's in the form of a book with one "leaf" for each DVD. There is no place for the empty DVD boxes from each of the seven TV series volumes and it's painfully flimsy.

R.O.D. (Read or Die) OST CD
A sinister plot is afoot and only one schoolteacher - a special agent with an affinity for rare books, can stop it. She is Ms. Yomiko Readman - better known to her colleagues in Section A of Library Special Operations as Agent Paper. There is lots of action, no naughty bits and no gore. There is a little red ink, but, it's not at all excessive. My favorite scene is the "second" encounter with Miss Deep and the arrival of Otto Lilienthan. The dubbing is surprisingly good. I enjoy the show just as much in English as I do in Japanese. The English voice actor who plays Yomiko, Kimberly Yates, really nailed the part. I gave R.O.D. (Read or Die) a 5 out of 5.

The R.O.D. (Read or Die) soundtrack CD has 14 tracks and I liked 10 tracks for a total of 71.4% which works out to a rating of 3 out of 4.
