Ogre Slayer...
After the success of Ranma 1/2, VIZ experimented with the VHS version of Ogre Slayer...
Volume 1In Ogre Slayer, our half-human-half-demon hero has some unresolved issues to settle with the demon side of his family. Basically, he wants them all dead and he's not going to take NO for an answer. There is a modest amount of action and gore. I used to have both dubbed VHS volumes. In the aftermath of the Ultimate Otaku Fall Cleanup, I decided not to keep Ogre Slayer in my archive. I gave Ogre Slayer a 3 out of 5.
From the fading warmth of his mother's cooling corpse, an ogre in the form of a young human boy is born. His ancestry? Pure ogre. His destiny? To kill his own kind. He bears not an ogre's horn, but an ogre-killing sword. Believing that he will become human once all his kind are extinct, he travels the land, sword in hand, daring to dream. He has no human name. Mankind refers only to his sword, 'Onikirimaru,' otherwise known as... Ogre Slayer.
Volume 2
Grim Fairy Tales
When you pray for something, it's always best to read the fine print on just who you're praying to. In this case, the prayers are for the birth of a child by a desperate mother. The problem? Should a child be conceived, it is destined to be killed at age five. By one of those Ogres. Call in the Ogre Slayer!
