Movie 1
In the future a massive earthquake has devastated Tokyo, leaving the barren city to suffer the ravages of the world about it. Despite phenomenon such as acid rain, the true danger lies with the actions of evil beings known as the Lucifer Hawk, creatures bent on the invasion of Earth and total eradication of the human race.
Arising from the ashes are humanity's last vestiges of hope in the form of a special police branch known as the AMP. This elite unit, dedicated to the preservation of civilization, is made up of highly trained individuals such as Yuki, the powerful psychic; the near-indestructible cyborg warrior Kiddy; the mystical Shinto priestess Nami; the ever-informed visionare Lebia; and their chief, the mysterious Rally Cheyenne.
Prepare to embark upon a quest to save the world with the members of the AMP and their newest recruit, Katsumi Liqueur, a woman with strange powers and a dark past. The battle for Earth lies in the hands of these powerful women... but will that be enough?

The end is near...
In a setup not dis-similar to BUBBLEGUM CRISIS, the tough half-human leader Rally Cheyenne heads a group of uniformed beauties -- cybernetic medium Lebia Maverick, Australian cyborg Kiddy Phenil, old-school Japanese mystic Nami Yamigumo, psychic dispatcher Yuki Saiko, and newest recruit Katsumi Liqueur, daughter of the arch-mage Gigelf and wielder of his sword Grospoliner. In mixing a cyberpunk look with occult imagery, SM: The Motion Picture is a visual feast. This is a dark, brooding anime... the ambiance is definitely that of Blade Runner, with "spinner" vehicles flying through an almost permanently rain-swept Tokyo hiding terrors under its shiny carapace. [Silent Mobius] is a triumph of mood and atmosphere, with little in the way of narrative variety but lashings of cyber-noir style.Silent Mobius has an aura of menace throughout with a bit of horror thrown in for good measure. There are no naughty bits, but, there is one brief ubiquitous shower scene. There's some blood and a modest amount of gore. The creature effects are particularly well done. The early Streamline dub for Lucifer Hawk is partially synthesized and sounds really menacing. In general, the dub has some good spots, but, leaves more than a little to be desired.
I recently revisited the movie and was pleasantly surprised that it still holds up very well. The overall quality of the animation is surprisingly good. I used to have the movie on dubbed VHS. Recently, I repurchased the first movie on DVD and I also purchased the second movie on DVD. The TV series wasn't available until well after the demise of Streamline and by that time, I had lost interest in Silent Mobius altogether. I gave Silent Mobius a 2 out of 5. The Silent Mobius Movie 1 soundtrack CD has 15 tracks and I liked 3 tracks for a total of 13.3% which works out to a rating of 1 out of 4.
