Spawn...

Years ago, I came across Spawn...

Animation

Volume 1
It is time for a new warrior to emerge from the darkness. He was once a man... now he's a "hell spawn", battling the forces of evil on Earth - and himself. Using his strange powers, he fights to uncover the truth about his identity and fulfill his destiny. One of the comic book industry's most popular and intriguing characters, Spawn explodes on the screen in a maelstrom of fantastic imagery with action, romance and high-level espionage.

Volume 2
The war between heaven and hell continues... Todd McFarlane's hell-spawn returns to battle the forces of evil on earth in this powerful second feature-length installment of SPAWN. How can you avenge betrayal and murder? How can you fight for right in a world so steeped in evil? How can you protect those you love most from all that can do them harm? No man living - or dead - can tell you. But one trapped between both is struggling for an answer that can save the lives of his most beloved, or plunge the world into eternal darkness. The cloak and chains of SPAWN are back. Exploding from the comic book page onto the screen in a deadly tornado of untapped, unwrapped, merciless power.

Volume 3
The Ultimate Battle - JOIN ME in a world of characters whose purpose is to torment Spawn's existence, including a messenger from heaven, whose seductive charm veils the deadly warrior beneath. Encounter a mystical war mask from the age of Genghis Khan. Solve a murder mystery involving two renegade detectives who find that a routine homicide is just the beginning of a trail that leaves them pitted against their fellow officers. All this unfolds directly in Spawn's domain, forcing him to confront those who want him dead. With celebrity voices from Robert Forster, Jennifer Jason-Leigh, Keith David, and Eric Roberts. This will become SPAWN'S ULTIMATE BATTLE.

Live-Action

Imagine a creature on the verge of creation. From comic book legend Todd McFarlane comes the live action special-effects event of the year - SPAWN. Michael Jai White, John Leguazamo and Martin Sheen star in a battle beyond good, beyond evil and beyond imagination.
Gratuitous gore and naughty bits and a fairly good story make this one of my favorites. Of course, my favorite scenes in the animated series involve the Violator. The live-action movie was, in my humble opinion, a noble effort, but, ultimately not as good as the animated series. That being said, I think John Leguazamo stole the show as the clown. Way back in the misty dawn of time, I had these on VHS. Later, I repurchased them on DVD. I gave Spawn a 4 out of 5.
