A while ago, I picked up Burst Angel aka Bakuretsu Tenshi...
Burst Angel is set in a future with giant robots and a certain amount of lawlessness. You'll see the occasional cowboy hat and more than a few guns, but, the previews seem to suggest more of a western theme than actually exists in the series. Burst Angel wasn't quite what I was anticipating and if I had seen the preview trailer beforehand I probably wouldn't have bought it.
There is some blood and gore and the action scenes are fairly well executed. Some of the CG effects are not blended with the traditional animation as well as I would like. Also, there is some stock footage of Jango being launched that pops up from time to time. But, now that I've seen it, I think it is surprisingly good. I gave Burst Angel a 4 out of 5.
Volume 1
Death's Angel
A new law's been passed in Tokyo. Ordinary folks are now allowed to freely carry firearms; shoot, they're even legally allowed to use'em. You might think that crime would increase, and you'd be right. But the arrest rate's gone down. After all, the only prison a dead man needs is a hole in the ground. All thanks to RAPT.
The Recent Armed Police of Tokyo is stealing away jurisdiction from the local authorities quicker than a bullet leaves a barrel. What that means is that folks are getting desperate. And desperate people with itchy fingers mean more bodies in the streets.
Now, I'm not sure if she came from up above or somewhere way down below, but an angel's just come to Earth. She's an enigma, but with her partners Sei, Amy, and Meg, she's the best chance this town's got. Her name's Jo. And there's a new sheriff in town.

A New Tokyo
A secret society's conjured up the spirit of an ancient demon, and they mean to set it loose on Meg. And if that's not enough, a dangerous giant bird preys on young girls and snatches up Meg before Jo's very eyes! A secret weapon injected into Kyo raises the stakes for Sei, and a deal to save Meg leaves Jo hanging in the balance. With traps and RAPT lurking behind every corner will Jo be able to save Meg this time? Or will the Crow Monster take Meg and Kyo down with him?

A new cybernetic police unit is put into commission in order to patrol the highways and keep the peace. But what happens when the regulators become unregulated? As the unit goes haywire the government struggles to regain control, but their efforts are in vain. Then the malfunctioning unit sets its lethal eyes on Takane. Can she escape its malicious glare?

Guardian Angel
Another terrorist attack rocks the city and grips the citizens with fear. But the girls won't be saving Tokyo this time: they've been de-commissioned. The truth behind Jo's existence is revealed and nothing seems to be the same. Meanwhile, Maria awaits the final battle she was originally programmed for.
It'll be Angel vs. Angel as Maria and Jo face off in the ultimate fight of their lives. Meanwhile, Sei devises a plan to destroy not only RAPT, but the dominance it has commanded over Tokyo. All she has to do is reassemble the team to do it.
