Easygoing Territory Defense By The Optimistic Lord...
I wasn't sure what to make of Easygoing Territory Defense By The Optimistic Lord, but, I thought I'd give the series a try...
Van begin using his skills to improve conditions in the village and also to upgrade their defenses. Before too long, trouble comes and Van and his cohorts make surprisingly quick work of the matter. Van makes great strides toward improving the village's defenses and begins the task of creating heavy weaponry in the form of Roman-style ballistae capable of hurling hardened spears with considerable force. The improved defenses are tested once again by a horde of wild predators. The defenses hold and the success brings the attention of traveling merchants who are thrilled to have the opportunity to buy the village's accumulated spoils of conflict.
Just as things are looking good for Van, events turn and a representative of the neighboring hostile nation shows up with Van's prospective fiancé. Then, the mer-people show up and Van's life becomes a bit more complicated as the mer-people's chief offers Van his daughter's hand in marriage. The situation turns even more dire as Van's father, hearing that Van is not actually dead and has somehow succeeded, summons Van to a war council as his father is going to war and he's still quite dissatisfied with his wayward and useless son.
There is some violence as events escalate towards war, but, there isn't much in the way of actual red ink. There are no naughty bits to speak of. Despite the unfortunate circumstances Van finds himself in at the start, the series starts out with a fairly light tone. As events unfold, the tone of the series becomes a bit darker, but, Van and his cohorts maintain a sense of optimism throughout. Overall, I enjoyed Easygoing Territory Defense By The Optimistic Lord and gave it a 4 out of 5.
After discovering that his son, Van wasn't born with one of the more worthwhile magic skills like water or fire casting, Van is sent away to a remote village to hopefully fail and die. After a long journey, Van arrives at a remote and modest village. The villagers are respectful, but, hesitant as they have no idea what sort of problems have just landed on the little village. Van surveys the area and determines that the village needs a better source of water, the residents are living in squalor and need better housing and most importantly, the village borders two hostile nations and is in desperate need of better defenses.Reborn as a marquis' fourth son, Van was once hailed as a genius prodigy--until he's exiled to a nameless frontier village for possessing Production Magic, a useless type of magic in this world.
