In The Land Of Leadale...

Recently, I bought In The Land Of Leadale...
Due to a terrible accident, Keina Kagami is forced to live on life support in order to survive. The only way for her to be free is within the VRMMORPG Leadale. One day, her life support stops functioning, and Keina loses her life. But when she wakes up, she finds herself in the world of Leadale 200 years in the future. She is now the high elf Cayna, who possesses lost skills and OP statuses and becomes closer to the other inhabitants of this world. But among those inhabitants happen to be the children she made in character creation?!
The heroine of our story, was hospitalized and unable to move or care for herself without assistance. Our heroine spent a lot of time in online gaming, presumably with the aid of some kind of mind/machine interface. One day, there is a power failure at the hospital and our heroine dies. Sometime later, our heroine, in the game character guise of Cayna, wakes up apparently stuck in the video game. After speaking with the resident NPC inn keeper, Cayna realizes that 200 years have elapsed in the game and the environment is very different from what she remembers.

Cayna isn't just an average player. She has spent tens of thousands of hours playing the game and is by far, the most powerful being anywhere. Cayna is one of a select few players with administrator access and the ability to establish bases of operation that served as proving grounds to test prospective candidates. If a candidate passed the tests, they could receive powerful skills. Cayna goes to her base, which is an insanely tall tower, and gets some additional information about her situation from her tower's guardian. She's also reminded by the guardian that she is the mother of three children. In the game, if you had time and enough credits accrued, you could create NPCs and they would essentially be your offspring.

Since Cayna cannot go back to her previous life, she decides to find her kids and get to know them. In the big city, she finds that her children have all done very well for themselves and have positions of prominence in the community. Cayna is a bit overwhelmed by the idea that these NPCs regard and revere her as their mommy. Cayna would like noting better than to keep a low profile, so, she takes it upon herself to locate the other, apparently abandoned admin bases and check on their status and disposition. During the course of her investigation, Cayna discovers that there are other players stuck in the game and also that not all the players have been stuck in the game as long as she has. Later, much to Cayna's dismay, she discovers that she is also grandmother and a great-grandmother.

The series has a fair amount of action, but, is surprisingly free of red ink. There are no naughty bits to speak of. One of the things that I like about this series, is its humor. Cayna is walking along a hallway with one of her sons and stops outside a room where her other son and her daughter are fighting each other with magic. Cayna decides to break up the fight by tossing a magical explosive into the room. Cayna has a wicked temper and it comes out every once in a while. Despite the sad circumstances that brought Cayna into this realm, the story is wholesome, optimistic and grounded in an appreciation for family. I really enjoyed In The Land Of Leadale and gave it a 5 out of 5.
