Fan Expo - 2026...
This convention report is very, very overdue. I was away from Blogger for a few years and I'm just now getting around to making a post. Sharp-eyed viewers will notice the same white DVD case used as a makeshift white background for my photos for some of my previous convention reports which were also way overdue. I did them all in one day. Moving On.
Despite the complications that kept me away from Blogger for a while, I still made the time to go to Fan Expo 2026 on May 30th. As usual, I decided to be fashionably late to avoid the crush of people all clamoring to get in all at once, so, I arrived at 11:00am. Imagine my surprise when I find a line two blocks long and looping back on itself three times. To this day, I have no idea what happened to cause the delay, but, that was definitely a first. Amazingly, the line was cleared pretty quickly and I made my way to the convention floor before noon.
Everyone was in good spirits. We were all happy to be there. I met a few people in line who were bringing their kids along and everyone was hyped to go. The energy in the crowd was amazing. I really wish my family took more interest in this, but, I still went alone this year. And seeing all the happy families going together made that dark spot in the pit of my mind want to come out and scream, but, I pushed him back down into that dark pit and had a good time despite my family not going!
Due to the late start, I didn't stay as long this time around. I hit the dealers' area and artists' alley first and had a good look around. This year Mom expressed an interest in t-shirts, so, I scouted out suitable t-shirt vendors first. I spotted a vendor selling handmade Star Trek themed t-shirts and picked up a few for Mom to choose from. During my travels, I saw two figures side-by-side from Freiren: Beyond Journey's End -- the title character, Freiren and her assistant Fern. They called to me and said buy us as a pair, so I did.
While I was there, I heard an announcement that David Tennant from Doctor Who, was in attendance and I saw a whole bunch of attendees race away to the photo op area. There were a couple of anime-skinned cars. One of which looked vaguely Sailor Moon-ish. I managed to get a lousy picture of it. I felt a little rushed. I felt overwhelmed by life that day and didn't feel like I could relax for a day. It wasn't the fault of the late start, but, the late start didn't help matters. So, I didn't feel inclined to take as many pictures and videos as I normally do. Overall, despite that dark spot in the pit of my mind acting up, I can honestly say, I had a good time.
